Unusual volume scanner
Big moves often start with volume. When a coin suddenly trades far more than usual relative to its size, someone is positioning — and price often follows. The SimpleAlgo Unusual Volume scanner checks the crypto market every few minutes and lists the coins with the most unusual activity, rated Extreme, High or Moderate.
Each spike shows the price when it was detected, the 24-hour change and how large the trading volume is compared with the coin's market value. The history tab lets you look back over past spikes and see what price did afterwards.
Free accounts see spikes on a 15-minute delay. Members see them the moment they are detected, with instant alerts.
Worked example: Starknet (STRK), October 12, 2026
On October 12, 2026 the scanner flagged Starknet (STRK) as an Extreme spike: daily trading volume reached about 60% of its entire market value while price was down about 16% on the day. Filecoin (FIL) appeared at the same time as a High spike, with volume around 31% of its market value.
A spike like STRK's tells you a lot of coins are changing hands in a falling market — often forced selling or a large holder exiting — and is a reason to watch closely rather than a signal on its own.
- STRK · Extreme
- $0.0979 · −16.06% · Vol/MCap 60%
- FIL · High
- $1.14 · −1.08% · Vol/MCap 31%
How to read the results
Vol/MCap compares 24-hour trading volume with the coin's market value. Most large coins trade a few percent per day; readings above 25% are unusual and above 45% are extreme.
Combine volume with direction: heavy volume with rising price suggests buying pressure; heavy volume with falling price suggests selling pressure.
